Ultima III: A New Exodus Hack - My First Experience

I must admit that Ultima III: A New Exodus was a bit before my time when I first played it. As a young lad back then, I rented it numerous times, and eventually bought it, but never seemed to make any progress. However, this game marked my introduction to the Ultima series.

My experience with Ultima III began when I decided to create a vector layer to draw on top of the map, noting the locations of towns and their names. Drawing the map was quite challenging due to the game's lack of compatibility with graph paper. To overcome this issue, I imported the cloth map as a raster image into MapInfo Professional, a geographic information system (GIS) program.

As I continued playing, I realized that finding a ship was crucial to my progress. Since I hadn't acquired one yet, I could see towns and dungeons off shore, which only fueled my desire to find a frigate soon. Along the way, I stumbled upon several clues that seemed unrelated at first, but I'm determined to figure out how they're connected.

The clues include seeking Ambrosia, visiting the Shrines of Truth, journeying through a whirlpool, finding the jester in the Castle of Fire, and collecting 'marks' and 'cards.' There are four 'marks' or 'cards' that need to be used to stick panels somewhere. Additionally, I've learned from fellow players that Exodus lies beyond the silver snake and that exotic arms will be necessary to defeat him.

One aspect of Ultima III that struck me was the character interactions. Each person gives you exactly one line of dialogue, and most offer stock responses. However, these responses are not as annoying or repetitive as those in Ultima II.

In the early stages of the game, I've been exploring and mapping Sosaria, a relatively small world, visiting towns, and gathering clues from the locals. Overall, my experience with Ultima III has been fascinating, and I'm excited to continue uncovering its secrets.
